AMS-NCME 'Alliance' Discussions ContinueA plan for a "strategic alliance" between the American Montessori Society and the National Center for Montessori Education has been completed, but leaders of the two organizations say no official announcement is expected before late September. The plan was developed after four task forces submitted reports and the organizations' executive directors-Richard Ungerer of AMS and Karen Lecy of NCME-met in California to refine the details. According to unconfirmed reports, the plan calls for a merger of the two organizations. Those same reports indicate that as of late August, concerns raised by some NCME members were the last details being addressed. The two organizations represent the vast majority of teacher education centers in the United States, with AMS serving about 60 and NCME about 20. |
